Unqualified Person Hired Because of his Connections Again
Again, and again and again until you get it
The latest round of people getting hired while unqualified has created another internet stink. Trent Dilfer, the latest unqualified individual hired, is another mark in the illustration of how the world is not a meritocracy. Dilfer, a Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was hired as the head coach of UAB because of his connections within football leagues. Against the wishes of players and despite the lack of experience, Dilfer was named the coach during the interview. In the interview, Dilfer revealed the people he knew, which threw merit and credentials out the proverbial window. The reveal solidified UAB’s decision to hire Dilfer, and it serves as a reminder that life is about who you know and not what you are capable of doing.
“Trent has been around the game a long time, and he knows the right guys to be selected as the right guy,” UAB Athletic Director Mark Ingram stated.
